During the Golden Age of Porn in the 1970’s a few films really pushed the mark with what is taboo, notably Water Power (1977), which was based on the true crime story of the Enema Bandit, and Long Jeanne Silver (1977) featuring Long Jeanne Silver, who was a famous amputee who could use the stump of her leg to give pleasure to other women. Another film which broke the taboos was Teenage Twins, and as the title suggests, starred two female twins.

Both these girls look quite straight and conservative, and could easily be imagined running a bring-and-buy stall at a local church fete, but don’t be deceived because these girls know no bounds when it comes to sex - especially when it’s full-blown lesbianism between the two of them.

Prudence (Taylor Young) and Hope (Brooke Young) are connected by a mysterious link. This is the mysterious link that real-life twins are supposed to have and even when far apart they can sense what is happening to the other. With this being a porno, they experience each other's desires and pleasures.

The film opens with the stuck-up Prudence having breakfast with her mum (Claire Wakefield) and stepfather Gerald (Leo Lovemore). Gerald tells everyone at the table that he has to go away for a couple of days to Boston because a very rare book on black magic called the Necromonicon has just been discovered, but before he leaves the uptight Prudence has an argument with him and storms off to her bedroom.

In her room, she can sense that her twin sister is making love and so masturbates herself by rubbing the spine of a Bible up and down against her bare crotch. It’s not long before her sister Hope returns home and climbs naked into the double bed they both share together. Cue some pump and grind lesbianism. One thing I can say is these two girls aren’t shy.

Next we see the mother with a male friend in the living room. He is Professor Robert Petrie (Eric Edwards) and this scene is so ridiculous. I laughed as I imagined how the director must have told the actors what to do:

“Now, Claire, I would like you to sit on the sofa semi-naked and Eric, I want you to stand next to her facing the camera and tell her how the Necromonicon is one of the greatest books on black magic ever written, and say how the Necromicon isn’t about magic - it is magic. Can you say that every single first-hand report on that book indicates that the spells it teaches really work. Then, Claire, honey, I want you to get out Eric’s dick and give him a blowjob.”

Suddenly Hope walks in and catches the two in action. She demands that Professor Petrie must make love to her while her mother watches. With a demand like that from a daughter, you would think Professor Petrie and the mother would be rather concerned… not likely! Professor Petrie is out of his clothes quicker than a blink of an eye and is having sex with the naked Hope who rests her head upon her mother’s lap while her mother seems to enjoy caressing her.

Most of the remaining time in this 67 minute movie is taken up with various sexual situations including the twins pretending to be each other with Prudence pretending to be Hope and being given some cunninglingus by Hope’s boyfriend, and Hope pretending to be Prudence as she seduces her stepfather – demanding at one point to not be fucked in the cunt, but in her arse.

Later, the stepfather and Professor Petrie have a quick threesome with Prudence. When they've finished, the stepfather, with the book now in his possession, tells Professor Petrie that he has no problem with him having an affair with his wife and blames it on the hidden powers of the Necromonican. He also blames the threesome they’ve just had on the book, too.

Next he suggests they do a black magic ritual so as to break the link between the two sisters. The other two agree, but first they must find another three people to take part because the ritual can only be performed with six people. That’s no problem because they ask for help from the mother, Hope and her boyfriend.

The final scene

The final scene involves five of them naked, sitting around a black magic pentacle on the living room floor while Prudence lies in the middle. Then each of the men takes it in turn to have sex with her. I love 70’s porn with black magic rituals! I’m not going to say much more about this final scene except that the very end is a real corker and had me laughing.

This film is a hoot and the dialog rates about 9 out of 10 on the ‘stupidity scale’ and it is delivered with such deadpan seriousness between all the scenes of wanton sex.

All the sex scenes are accompanied by some great funky disco music, which is really catchy and begins as soon as the actors finish discussing black magic and begin getting into the hot stuff. Amazingly, a soundtrack album has since been released.

Directed by Carter Stevens, who churned out these movies as well as performing in others throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. One question that’s left begging to be answered, whatever happened to Brooke and Taylor Young?

Teenage Twins (1976)

I love hardcore porn from the 70’s because it can sometimes be so weird and much of it actually has a plot. Also in those days you couldn’t watch it on video or DVD in the privacy of your own home, you had to go to a cinema. Often these movies would be based around a theme, such as devil worshippers, Nazis, a deviant on the loose, or science fiction as in the case with Invasion of the Love Drones.

 The film opens with the New York skyline with the Twin Towers in the distance. George (Eric Edwards) is asleep in bed with his girlfriend. He awakens and goes to the bathroom. Meanwhile a phallic shaped spaceship turns and points towards the Earth. Suddenly the naked George is beamed aboard the spaceship.

On board the spaceship George has sex with two aliens which results in him being turned into a love drone. He is then beamed back to his bathroom. He comes out of the bathroom and speaks to his wife. She doesn’t seem to notice that he walks and talks like a robot. They have sex and George’s girlfriend also becomes a love drone.

The next day George, walking like a robot through the streets in his safari suite, goes to a sexual research laboratory and volunteers to take part in the research. In the laboratory he has sex with another volunteer and this also turns her into love drone. An alien voice announces that the aliens spread through sexual energy and will take over the world.

The two female scientists in the laboratory witness the girl being turned into a love drone which briefly involves George turning into a glowing white alien before he transforms the girl. One of the scientists calls her superior on the telephone to report the incident.

Meanwhile, George’s girlfriend is posing for a glamour photographer and they end up having sex. He too becomes a love drone.

 On board the spaceship two aliens have sex. Their lovemaking becomes more intense as the sexual energy is siphoned from the Earth.

Next we see a James Bond secret agent arrive at an apartment block where he bumps into an old female friend. In next to no time, they are having sex which results in the secret agent becoming a love drone.

At the headquarters of the FBI they decide to send a female agent, Agent Rona (Jennifer Jordan, who is also on the credits for the sound), to investigate instead. She arrives at a club house where all the members are sitting around playing chess. The club leader turns out to be a love drone, so she escapes, but doesn’t get far when she finds the keys to her car have been taken. A biker offers to help her escape, so she jumps onto the back of his bike. Instead of taking her away, he takes her back to the club where she is held down on a glass table by the club members and the club leader proceeds to have sex with her. This scene with the love drones attacking her is very much like something from Invasion of the Body Snatchers. She has also now become a love drone.

The club leader temporarily transforms into an alien

The scientist tells her assistant that she has a plan to save the world which involves going out and picking-up a guy with the hope that he will be a love drone. At the moment he orgasms and momentarily turns into a glowing aliens, she will inject him with a syringe containing enough venereal disease to 'infect most of China'.

Her first attempt involves picking-up a rather camp over-weight guy, but this attempt fails because he doesn't turn into an alien when he orgasms - he's just a normal guy which leaves the scientist feeling humiliated.

In the meantime, George is beamed back onto the spaceship where the Queen of the Love Drones appears. If this film wasn’t already weird enough, it gets really weird with the Queen being a black actress who has shaved her head bald and who's naked body is completely covered in white makeup with two gold metal caps over her breasts.

She begins to have sex with George. There is something very surreal with the imagery for this scene as she straddles George which the two naked aliens assisting her.

Back on the Earth more and more people are turning into love drones. The scientist returns to her laboratory and she too has now become a love drone. It is up to her assistant to save the Earth.

This film is great with the dialogue being hilarious. It is so weird, and even with its obviously low budget, it is imaginatively done. There are moments during the film which are quite stylish, especially the scenes with the two aliens making love on the spaceship. There is something very “disco” about these scenes, even though no disco music is heard. Instead they are accompanied by some really great ambient music. Actually all the music in this film is really good and comprises of an odd assortment of styles ranging from 60’s James Bond style surf music, to some psychedelia, to moog, to sensual ambient.

Music buffs may be interested to know that the mellow music played during the alien couple sex scenes on the spaceship is taken from a 1972 library music album by Stringtronics called Mindbender and the track is called Dawn Mists. It also appears on the compilation Barry 7's Connectors.

If you like your porn from its Golden Age during the 70's, then you'll love Invasion of the Love Drones. It's so bizarre and will have you laughing.

Invasion of the Love Drones (1977)

Genre: Art-House Soft Porn

This is a compilation of shorts which were originally commissioned by a wealthy Dutch man on the topic of wet dreams. These shorts were made by a number of directors, notably one of the pioneers of modern pornography, Lasse Braun, who is credited here as Falcon Stuart.

These shorts wouldn’t be considered arousing, but are more experimental in nature. This isn’t to say they are pretentious - on the contrary, each short is unique and entertaining.

Notable shorts in this compilation are Contrasts by Max Fischer and Lee Kraft which includes two mixed race couples - one partner is white and the other black. Shot against a plain white background, the couples seductively caress each other’s bodies. This short was stylish and sensuously done.

The Happy Necrophiliacs by Lasse Braun is a funny one about an American tourist visiting Amsterdam who is taken by two girls to a room and stripped naked on a bed. The two girls then both simultaneously take it in turn to bounce up and down on him whilst having sex. This results in the American having a heart-attack and dropping dead (literally). With the guy now limp, the girls simultaneously ride up and down on his pointing up feet. All of this is accompanied by a jaunty country and western song.

Deep Skin by Max Fischer gets up really close to the body parts of a couple as they make love (no penetration) and throughout the short you never see their entire bodies – just a giant nipple or tongue filling the whole screen.

A Face by Max Fischer is similar in idea to Andy Warhol’s short Blow Job (1964) where the camera is fixed stationary on the subjects face, allowing the viewer to watch the facial expressions as the subject reaches orgasm. Compared to Andy Warhol’s, Max Fischer’s short is executed in a much more sensual way as you watch the girl reach orgasm.

The Private World of Hans Kanters by Hans Kanters consists of the camera studying closely the paintings of this Dutch artist whose paintings are the equivalent to a pornographic Hieronymus Bosch painting.

The Banner by Lee Kraft consists of film shot in reverse of a mass of writhing painted naked bodies which slowly come together to create the American flag.

The Plummer by Lee Kraft is an entertaining silent movie satire with a very horny Charlie Chaplin.

As well as Lasse Braun, another notable director profiled is the Serbian director of WR: Mysteries of the Organism (1971), Dusan Makavejev, who contributes the short Politfuck which, as the title suggests, has a political/sexual theme. He is credited under the name Sam Rotterdam.

This compilation was acquired by French businessman Francis Mishkind who owned the Alpha theaters and distribution circuit and released it in Paris in 1974. The Alpha France logo at the beginning of the film will be recognizable to anyone who has watched quality French porn from the Golden Age of Porn during the 1970’s.

Many of the shorts don’t have dialogue, but the ones that do have only a limited amount and are either in French or Dutch with French subtitles. On the whole, this doesn't detract from the viewer's understanding of these shorts. The only one I did have problems with was Nicholas Ray’s The Janitor which was very talky and hardly anything else.

This compilation is very much a timepiece of those times and is definitely worth tracking down. This is porn for art school students.
